A Just Point Of View
A Just Point Of View

If thin is in and slim is beautiful, then the statues gracing the open air lobby of the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa on Maui, must be utterly grotesque.
Except they’re not. They’re huge, yes. They’re fatter than fat women, yes. There’s something oddly attractive about the mostly nude figures.
Curvy women are in, so says Secrets in Lace. Compare the curves, if you dare.
These fat polynesian ladies (I hesitate to use “ladies” because of the obvious lack of grace in a woman the size of a small car) look positively ravishing, or nearly so. Of course, that’s merely a point of view.

What will it cost you to see the ultra-bronze polynesian women at the Grand Wailea? More than you might expect.
If you intend to grace your stay at the Grand Wailea with an eye toward photgraphing these gargantuan ladies, make sure to bring plenty of credit card spending limit.
The Grand Wailea is one of our favorite resorts ever. Not only is the resort beautiful, but it caters to families with a large pool area, a water slide, and a pristine beach. Uh, sorry. It caters to very well-to-do families of extraordinary means.
Our last visit was a lengthy weekend a few years ago at a pricey $200 or so per night. Somehow the Grand Wailea-- same place, same beach, same statues, same ocean-- became a Waldorf-Astoria with room prices that begin at about $500 a night.
That’s not even for a full 24 hours. If it was, it would be a bargain at 35-cents per minute.
Fat Women on Maui
The Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa on Maui celebrates fat women in the Pacific.
The statues depict very well developed fat women, grotesque in a way, oddly beautiful in another way.
